Global Chat

Top  Previous  Next

Global Chat enables users in far-away regions to communicate in-world, similar to the former "extended-chat network" (ECN) that was available in AWTeen.

Unlike the ECN system, the global chat system (GCS) in Apollo is far more simplistic. It is not necessary to "enable" GCS features before using any GCS commands. GCS users must join channels using ap:chat:join. All GCS users will receive messages from the channel participants.

Channels exist only as long as there are users in them; once all users have left the channel, it is deleted from the GCS.

Changes in Service Update 1

Users who leave the world while in a GCS channel will automatically re-join the channel when they return. This memory will be held for approximately 10 minutes.
A new command is available to list all the users in a channel.
Public Speaker status will now be shown in GCS text.

Changes in Service Update 3

Channel names can now be 15 characters long. Previously, the limit was 9 characters.
Certain channel names may now be restricted.
